Happy Sunday, folks!
My initial intention in reviving this series was to force myself out of a negative headspace loop. The practice was easy: log it down in case something made me feel good. These days, however, I find myself actively seeking out positive things to put in my journal so that by the end(ish) of the week, I could recap some stuff that I can share and continue this streak. This pressure is a good one, and it’s a to-do that I don’t mind having, as it encourages me to intentionally look for °˖glimmers˖° throughout my days. I think it’s helping me far more than I initially imagined.
Anyway, this week has been one of those ordinary weeks. There haven’t been many big events, and my mood tends to shift up and down. In low moments, though, I feel like I needed to extend a little more ‘love’ to myself. And my gratitude practice has become an act of self-love. I find that it’s easier to dig myself out of a hole by reading my list for the week, no matter how mundane. Here are some of them:
✧˖° Sunny days sprinkled throughout the week!
✧˖° The feeling of freshly washed (and styled) hair.
✧˖° Visiting a place close to my heart for the first time in a while: Queen’s Film Theatre. I took myself to the movies twice this week after work, and watched Flow and Conclave - two films I’d been looking forward to seeing since the last Oscar season started. Both did not disappoint: I loved them to bits!
✧˖° Cooking for myself multiple times this week and taking the time to prepare and pack lunch for my office days. A staple these days: creamy cheesy garlic sauce (a pantry-cleanup concoction) over everything (typically pan-fried chicken breasts or baked salmon/cod fillets) + quinoa rice.
✧˖° The combo of hot Hong Kong-style milk tea and French toast (with a lovely vanilla ice cream on top) from Faan Hup, a local cha chaan teng (Hong Kong-style diner) . Dessert heaven! So comforting, even if I (more often than not) get a massive acid reflux from the tea afterwards. 😅
✧˖° Starting to feel like I’m in control again (work-wise). 😌
✧˖° Encountering the quote below randomly while scrolling through Instagram. Wow, what a line. It puts things into perspective.
✧˖° Diffusion stones are a godsend - instantly turning my favorite perfume at the moment into a room fragrance.
✧˖° Finally finished Florentyna Leow’s How Kyoto Breaks Your Heart this week and, as expected, I loved it so much. 🥹
✧˖° A (distant) friend randomly messaging me something encouraging, right when I needed it. Once again, I am reminded of the sentiments in this post:
"we are the people in the world to whom we tell things"
“Ruth said, 'Remember how we said we are the people in the world to whom we tell things. And that's us. Something happens and I think, I'll tell the next ladies' lunch. '”
✧˖° Catch-ups with various friends throughout the week: my social cup is full, and I am grateful for it. ✨
